The Black Keys Already Have a New LP In the Bag

According to a recent article in Spin, the Black Keys already have their upcoming LP finished. I say “already,” but it was actually May of 2010 when they released their colossal record Brothers that propelled them into the mainstream. I don’t know why that album feels like it was released only a short time ago, but it wasn’t. Anyway!

Amidst touring the world, winning three Grammys, working the festival circuit, and much more, they’ve recorded a new LP. Dan Auerbach says of the new songs, “It’s the fastest we’ve ever played… The new album doesn’t sound like Brothers. It doesn’t have that open soul feel to it. It’s way more driving and the tempos are really fast.” He also explained that the fresh material was inspired by the Clash, the Cramps and old garage rock and rockabilly. I haven’t been intrigued by the Black Keys in some times, but I must say, this kind of material they speak of should fair well in their hands.

Apparently, the drums are so fast that drummer Patrick Carney is worried about playing some of these songs live. The LP doesn’t have a title yet, but they say it’ll be released later this year. Danger Mouse was again brought on as the producer.
