Nicole Scherzinger Sets Date for U.S. Debut

After a few false starts, Nicole Scherzinger is ready to conquer America alone. The former Pussycat Doll has announced a release date for her U.S. solo debut.

Killer Love, which is currently available in the U.K., will arrive stateside on August 16, Interscope Records has announced. It is led by the 50 Cent-assisted single “Right There” and will feature her U.K. singles “Poison” and “Don’t Hold Your Breath,” along with four to five new songs including a collaboration with R. Kelly and Snoop Dogg called “Peep Show.”

“At the time I was doing my U.K. album, I was really into more dance-inspired music, which is amazing and so much fun for Europe,” Nicole told Rap-Up.com. “For the U.S., I wanted to go back to my roots where I started, a little bit more urban sounding ’cause that’s still a very big part of me as well, and I wanted to make sure I wove that into the album.”

Nicole will perform the Jim Jonsin-produced “Right There” with 50 Cent on the May 19 episode of “American Idol” and co-host Simon Cowell’s singing competition “The X Factor” this fall.

GaGa and Foo Fighters for Radio 1 Big Weekend

Radio 1’s flagship live event the Big Weekend is to take place in Carlisle this year, with Foo Fighters and Lady GaGa headlining.

The event takes place over the weekend of Saturday May 14 and Sunday May 15 at the Carlisle Airfield.

Over four stages - the Main Stage, the In New Music We Trust Stage, the Outdoor Stage and the BBC Introducing Stage -a line up of UK and international acts will perform, including the Black Eyed Peas, Tinie Tempah, Chase & Status, Plan B, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and Nicole Scherzinger.

Free tickets for the 40,000 capacity event will be available via bbc.co.uk/radio1, with registration opening tomorrow (Thursday) at 815am.

Radio 1 editor of live events Neil Wyatt said he believed the event – which has previously played host to the likes of Madonna and Rihanna – has its best line up to date in 2011.

“We’re bringing some huge international and UK artists to the city and it should have a huge impact on the area,” he said.

GaGa added, “I've been planning and rehearsing for so many months now and, after two years of working on my new album, I'll get to do a great big performance in the UK. I'm mostly excited for Radio 1's Big Weekend because I can't wait to see all of the monsters in the UK. Expect a monster avant-garde pop fantasia.”

As in previous years, Radio1 will use the opportunity to push the boat out with its multi-platform coverage. The event will be broadcast on Radio 1, with an interactive presence online at bbc.co.uk/radio1.

There will be highlights on BBC Three and extended performances can be viewed via the Red Button during the weekend.

Last year’s Big Weekend took place in Bangor, with a line up that included Florence & The Machine, Rihanna and Alicia Keys.

Adele's '21' Ties Beatles, Madonna U.K. Album Charts Record

Adele's epic reign on the U.K. sales charts strengthened again yesterday (Mar. 27), as her "21" album (XL) started a ninth week at No. 1 and its single "Someone Like You" climbed back to the top, 2-1, giving it five of the last six weeks at the summit.

It's just over ten years since any album spent nine weeks in a row at No. 1 in the U.K.; the Beatles' "1" compilation achieved the feat from November 2000 to January 2001. "21" is the first album by a solo female to spend this long at the U.K. peak since Madonna's "The Immaculate Collection" exactly ten years before that, from November 1990 to January 1991.

"21" sold another 156,000 copies last week, according to the Official Charts Company, to take its total sales to Saturday night (26) to 1,496,588. "Someone Like You" sold a further 82,000 units and Adele's first album "19" another 47,000, to post another week at No. 2.

The Strokes' new album "Angles" (Rough Trade) debuted at No. 3, selling 35,000 units. There were also top ten debuts for "When Ronan Met Burt" (Polydor), the collaboration between Irish singer Ronan Keating and songwriting giant Burt Bacharach, at No. 5; Nicole Scherzinger's "Killer Love" (Interscope/Universal) at No. 8 (containing last week's No. 1 single "Don't Hold Your Breath," now down into runner-up spot); and Chris Brown's "F.A.M.E." (Jive/Sony Music Entertainment) at No. 10.

Arriving inside the album top 20 were Duran Duran's "All You Need Is Now" (Tape Modern/Edel) at No. 11, blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa's "Dust Bowl" (Provogue) at a U.K. career-best No. 12, Green Day's live set "Awesome As F**k" (Reprise/Warner Music) at No. 14, and "Up On The Roof - The Very Best of the Drifters" (Rhino/Sony Music Entertainment) at No. 17. "Massive R&B - Spring 2011" (Rhino/UMTV) started a second week atop the compilation chart.

The singles chart also registered a 15-3 rise for Black Eyed Peas' "Just Can't Get Enough" (Interscope/Universal) and a No. 11 debut for the Comic Relief charity fundraiser "I Know Him So Well" (Syco Music/Sony Music Entertainment) by comedian Peter Kay and Susan Boyle.
