Britney Spears, Lady Gaga Rule Billboard.com's 2011 Mid-Year Music Awards

Britney Spears and Lady Gaga proved the ultimate pop music divas in Billboard.com's Mid-Year Music Awards poll, which allowed fans to weigh in on their favorite songs, albums and performances of the first half of 2011 over the past week. Once the hundreds of thousands of votes were tallied after voting ended on Wednesday (July 6), the pop icons were declared the top candidate in a combined seven categories, with Spears edging Gaga in the First-Half MVP tally.

Spears' seventh studio album, "Femme Fatale," was named the Favorite Billboard 200 No. 1 album after topping the chart upon its March release, while her single "Hold It Against Me" won the Favorite Hot 100 No. 1 Song trophy. The singer's cheeky clip for "I Wanna Go" was also voted Best Music Video, and her recently started Femme Fatale tour was voted Best Tour.

Meanwhile, Gaga's eye-popping outfits earned her the most Best Style votes, and her set at Radio 1's Big Weekend was named the Best Festival Performance. Gaga was also the runner-up in categories like First-Half MVP, Favorite Billboard 200 No. 1 album for "Born This Way," Best Music Video for her elaborate "Judas" clip, and Best Tour for her Monster Ball trek.

Other leading vote-getters included Wiz Khalifa, whose ubiquitous single "Black and Yellow" and debut album "Rolling Papers" garnered enough fans to earn the rapper the Best Newcomer award; Jennifer Lopez, who used her seat at the "American Idol" judges table and new album "Love?" to lead the Best Comeback category; Beyonce, whose show-stopping performance at the 2011 Billboard Music Award was voted Best Awards Show Performance; and Chris Brown, whose "Good Morning America" tirade was named the year's Most Memorable Meltdown so far.

Check out the full results below, including the percentage of the votes that each candidate received, and let us know if you approve of the final tallies in the comments section.

Beyoncé may have been on to something with that whole "Run the World (Girls)," business after all. Though Queen B's single didn't set the world on fire, in the first half of 2011, a number of her fellow divas — Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry — have helped the music business achieve something it hasn't been able to in nearly eight years: positive growth.

Nick Carter Says NKOTBSB Are Athletes

Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter insists the rigours of touring with New Kids On The Block have turned him and his bandmates into true athletes.

Carter, who has adopted a meat-free diet for the two boybands' first collaborative tour, admits he has developed a new respect for New Kids star Danny Wood, who goes to great lengths to maintain his fitness levels on the road.

And the Backstreet's Back singer/dancer admits he's now going all out to make sure he can keep up with the other guys on tour.

He tells Cnn, "Danny's the epitome of physicality. He's in great shape.

"I feel like we're athletes. I think that we're up there kicking butt. We're giving it our all; we have to run up and down a stage that's the length of a basketball court... and I think we're doing a really good job."
