Ciara in talks to sign with SRC/Universal Motown?
After months of hell over at Jive Records, it looks like Ciara may finally be close to finding a new label home.
Earlier today, CiCi had a business meeting with her manager Kenneth Creer and SRC Records chairman/CEO Steve Rifkind. Rifkind jumped on Twitter to spill the tea about the little get together, saying: “Just had a great meeting with Ciara and her manager. She is poised for greatness, really impressed.”
Rifkind specializes in R&B and Hip-Hop, so Ciara would be a perfect fit for either SRC Records, or Universal Motown, who SRC are a subsidiary of.
The Fly Guy Music blog also did a little digging around to find some things to further link CiCo to the Universal Motown camp, and he came up with good stuff. Producer Soundz, who has been working with Ciara on new music after they met while producing her mega-flop Basic Instinct, was just hired as an A&R agent for Universal Motown in February.
Also, both Universal Motown and SRC don’t seem shy about signing fallen urban-pop divas: SRC are currently trying to revive the career of Playboy model Aubrey O’Day after recently giving her a post-Danity Kane solo deal; and last year Universal Motown took Kelly Rowland off the scrapheap and temporarily revived her career in the US with the hit single “Motivation”. Also, Ciara was spotted this past March having dinner with Kelly Rowland during a girls’ night out with Kim Kardashian — coincidence?
It’s all speculation at this point, but it’s worth keeping an eye on the situation.
A few months ago I would’ve written off my girl Ciara as done and dusted, but if Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Rowland can return to the charts after years of exile, then there’s a small glimmer of hope for CiCi, too.
Since February when Ciara infamously took to her Facebook and publicly begged Jive Records to drop her, she’s been trying to keep busy with an Australian tour, a one episode guest spot on Hellcats, and a new romance with Knicks’ basketballer Amare Stoudamire.

Soulja Boy Reveals Plans to Collaborate with Drake
What would a Soulja Boy-Drake collaboration sound like? We may soon find out. The “Crank That” rapper has plans to hit the studio with the Young Money star for his upcoming album.
“Me and Drake got something coming—crazy,” Soulja Boy tells Rap-Up.com. “Drake called me and was like, ‘Man, I like the Juice mixtape. I like the ‘Zan With That Lean’ too. He named four songs off the mixtape that he really liked.”
The two rappers have set aside time to work on Drake’s sophomore album Take Care. “He said he’s coming to Atlanta and gon’ kick it with me,” adds Soulja. “We gonna go in the studio for a whole week. He’s working on his new album too, so you already know what time it is.”
