Adele tops UK album songwriters list
Adele has been named the top album and UK hit songwriter in the first quarter of 2011 due to the massive sales of her sophomore album.
The 'Rolling In The Deep' star has topped the chart for the top 20 album songwriter in the first quarter of the year, having co-written 10 out of 11 tracks on her multi-million selling album 21 and six out of 12 songs on her debut 19, which has also seen an increase in sales over the last few months.
Fellow 21 contributors have also placed highly on the list with Paul Epworth at three, Ryan Tedder at seven, Eg White at 12 and Fraser T Smith at 14, reports Music Week.
The Cure have also been helped by Adele with the inclusion of her cover version of their track 'Lovesong' on her album, which places them at joint seventh with Tedder.
The high sales of her first two records put her ahead of hit-making trio The Smeezingtons, who are placed at number two. The production team - including Bruno Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine - have had success in the first part of the year following contributions towards Mars's Doo-Wops and Hooligans and Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer albums.
Adele also tops the UK Hit Songwriters list, with Jessica Cornish (Jessie J) coming in at number two for sales of her hit singles 'Do It Like A Dude' and 'Price Tag'. Patrick Okogwu (Tinie Tempah) is placed at number four following his wins at this year's BRIT awards and his launch in the US giving him a sales boost.
The Smeezingtons have managed to retain their top spot on the top 40 songwriters of quarter one list, having been overall winners for 2010. Hits including 'Grenade', 'Forget You' and Travie McCoy's 'Billionaire' helped them stay in pole position.
Adele is currently on course to top the UK album chart for a 13th week with 21, which passed the two million sales mark last week.

RedOne: 'Aliens would love Lady GaGa'
RedOne has claimed that aliens would love Lady GaGa.
The 'Bad Romance' hitmaker admitted that he loves working with GaGa because of her unique ideas and her seemingly fearless attitude to make them work.
"I met GaGa before she had the deal. She was so open to trying new ideas. People from outer space would love GaGa," he told Vibe magazine.
"It was obvious to me that she'd have a global sound with her bridges and melodies – she writes great lyrical concepts and had a lot of drums, very rhythmic."
RedOne has recently been working on GaGa's sophomore album Born This Way, which is due to be released worldwide on May 23.
GaGa recently confirmed that she is to premiere the video for her latest RedOne-produced single 'Judas' during American Idol.
The 25-year-old singer has defended the religious content of the video by claiming that it's intended to be a celebration of faith.
