Paul McCartney, Janet Jackson, Dolly Parton heading to Australia
SIR Paul McCartney leads an invasion of classic rockers planning to visit this summer.
Former Beatle McCartney, 68, has been in talks with two Australian promoters.
One pitched a national run in November.
The other proposed a New Year's Eve show in Sydney, followed by a tour of the major centres.
But McCartney cooled on the tour plan because he wants to spend the holiday season with his new love, Nancy Shevell, and family.
''We couldn't get him motivated to tour in that period,''one promoter said. ''He doesn't want to work then even though the offer was amazing.''
Promoters say talks are ongoing.
''It's a 50-50 chance,'' a promoter said. ''Paul McCartney tours happen at the last minute. This will be no different.
As McCartney decides, punters can expect a classic rock feast this summer.
Sunset Strip shockers Motley Crue and Poison frontman Bret Michaels will share the stage in September.
British rockers Def Leppard will co-headline a double bill with US hitmakers Heart in October.
Country legend Dolly Parton and newcomer Taylor Swift will announce separate shows in November.
US rockers Foo Fighters are planning a tour in November.
Fleetwood Mac icon Stevie Nicks will also perform that month.
Nicks will be joined by Eurythmics star Dave Stewart.
Former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters will bring his epic show, The Wall, to Australia in December.
US superstar Janet Jackson will also tour before the end of the year. Jackson will perform a greatest hits show.
Pastel-era stars Shakin’ Stevens, Howard Jones and Spandau Ballet frontman, Tony Hadley, will also tour in 2011.
Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Steely Dan and Steve Winwood have confirmed tours later this year.
Lady Gaga will do arena dates in May 2012.
A concert industry source says wants to do a long term residency like Pink did with her Funhouse tour in 2009.
The Rolling Stones are also working on a concept tour to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2012.
US rapper Eminem has offered tour dates, but money is a sticking point.

''He wants a huge amount and I don't know who will go there,'' one promoter said. ''He wants stadium size money.''
A source said Eminem is asking for $1.5 million a show, but his production costs are almost double that amount.
US rockers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have also offered a tour window.
Promoters say the tour calendar is a windfall for music lovers.
But one warned: ''There are too many promoters with too many bands and not enough punters.
''Too much supply and not enough demand.''
