Avril Lavigne is to release a 'deeper, emotional' new album.
The Canadian singer - whose divorce from Deryck Whibley was finalised last month - insists her forthcoming single, 'What the Hell' is not representative of the rest of the material on her next record, 'Goodbye Lullaby'.
She said: 'The song is more reminiscent of some of my old pop rock. The rest of the album is more stripped down, deeper. All the songs are very emotional.
'The other albums I've done, the songs are all over the place. This is the most consistent album all the way through.'
'Goodbye Lullabye' - which will be released on March 8 - is Avril's first album since 2007's 'The Best Damn Thing' and she admits she is 'anxious' to get back into the public eye.
She added in an interview with website PopEater: 'Four years ago I put out my last album and it feels like forever. But two of those years I spent travelling around the world touring and promoting it.
'I'm anxious to get out there again. There will be a world tour promoting the new album and single in the new year.'
