Nicki Minaj Sophmore Album Annoucement in September

Nicki Minaj has kept her guest features to a minimum since the release of her platinum debut Pink Friday, but she’s got a timeline in place for its follow-up. The Harajuku Barbie explained that her Barbz will get an announcement regarding the sophomore effort by September, with the album set to drop within the next 12 months.

“You’ll get another album within 12 months,” she told KIIS FM’s JoJo. “You’ll get the announcement for the next album in—and I’m saying the announcement—that you’ll get the announcement in September. That’s all.”

But for now she’ll stay busy promoting her new single “Super Bass” and its video, set to arrive in the next week. Videos for “Did It On’em” and “Fly,” her collaboration with Rihanna, have also been shot.

After her “I Am Still Music” tour with Lil Wayne winds down this month, fans can catch her opening for Britney Spears on the “Femme Fatale” tour, kicking off on June 17. Stay tuned to MyPinkFriday.com for more information.

Lady Gaga announces Judas music video "first week in May"

Anonymous singer The Weeknd drops stellar debut mixtape

The anonymous R&B singer The Weeknd recently released his 9-song debut, "House of Balloons" – a staggering mix of R&B, dubstep and indie/avant-garde samples. The mixtape sounds like Drake during his most wallowing moments, offering a dark and despairing insight into the world of drug consumption that, for all its sadness and futility, is also undeniably catchy, or perhaps addicting itself.

Opener "High for This" begins somewhat conventionally: hypnotic drum slugging and reverb-drowned vocals a la Drake. However, when The Weeknd implores, "Open your head," electronic fuzz and dubstep beats suddenly pulsate, awakening the song from its swoon. This weekend party has all the elements of contemporary mainstream rap—lots of drugs and girls—but even when The Weeknd sings the song's chorus, "Even though you don't roll / Trust me girl / You wanna be high for this," he is hardly glorifying this hedonism.

Rather, the song sounds chilling and desperate; being "High for This" is not just part of the party, it is a necessity.

"What You Need" follows, sounding most-appropriate for mainstream audiences; it is relatively short (around 3:30), has a lush, jangly beat and can be construed as a love-song: "He's what you want / I'm what you need." On an album focusing on drugs, however, the metaphor of addiction becomes quickly apparent, especially when The Weeknd sings, "I'm the drug in your veins."

Besides the shorter "What You Need," most of the songs on "House of Balloons" surpass the five-minute mark. The mixtape's highlight, "House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls," nears 7 minutes, beginning with fuzzy waves of electronic noise and a psychedelic sample from Siouxsie and the Banshees, which revels in its drug-filled indulgence: "This is a happy house / We're happy here in the happy house / This is fun, fun, fun, fun..."

The song unwinds midway into the sludgy beat of "Glass Table Girls," capturing the dingy atmosphere of a cocaine-filled after-party: "We could test out the tables / We got some brand new tables / All glass and it's four feet wide / But it's enough to get us ten feet high." The Weeknd alters his normally echoing and despondent vocals with aggressive and confrontational near-whispering, evoking tension and a sense of looming danger.

"House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls" captures the ethos of the perpetually high hip-hop and rap scene, and it is therefore not just one of the better songs released this year but also one of the most culturally and historically significant.

"The Morning" appropriately follows: the slowed down, reflective hangover, where the leftover "codeine cups paint a picture so vivid" of the night before. Other highlights include "The Party & The After Party," which artfully samples indie-darlings Beach House, and "Wicked Games," an achingly melancholic confessional of false-love and, you guessed it, drug use.

Much like Elliott Smith's posthumous "From a Basement on a Hill," a haunting collection of songs about drug-addiction and dying recorded when Smith essentially was a walking corpse, "House of Balloons" sounds frighteningly earnest—the harrowing words from a moribund singer. If true art is suffering, "House of Balloons" is a ghastly masterpiece.

Cheryl Cole Wants RiRi, Minaj & Katy Perry Duets For US Album

Cheryl Cole is allegedly hoping to recruit a whole host of A-Listers to work with on collaborations for her debut US album.

According to M Is For Music, the Fight For This Love hitmaker is hoping to land duets with the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj for her first American release, ahead of her stint as a judge on The X Factor USA.

Despite having two hit albums in the UK, Chezza is yet to release any music Stateside, with reports suggesting that her management are hoping to comply a new LP to help launch her solo career in the US.

The website states that Cole's American album will feature new material, as well as the best tracks from her two previous UK records, 3 Words and Messy Little Raindrops - with sources claiming they will be "revamped" to appeal to a US market.

An insider told M Is For Music: "Cheryl’s management want her to become the next big popstar in America and are working on securing some A-List names for the album."

They continued: “A Rihanna duet is a certainty and Will.I.Am is trying to convince Minaj to work on the LP too. Katy Perry has also been in talks with Cheryl about a duet as she is a big fan."

The mole also added that Chezza is "desperate" to work with Beyoncé and Britney Spears, but understands that these sort of collaborations would "take a long time to achieve."

It is thought the 27-year old's new album will also feature tracks with her pal, Black Eyed Peas frontman, Will.I.Am, as well as her duet, Yeah Yeah, with rapper Travie McCoy.

While Cheryl continues her quest for world domination, allegations have suggested that Girls Aloud are planning to reunite WITHOUT the Parachute hitmaker.

Heat magazine claims the rest of the girls - Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, Sarah Harding and Kimberley Walsh - are keen to reform the group, but Cheryl is said to be "too busy".

An insider told the publication: "The girls are very keen to reunite and start working on another album. Their main love is the band and they all feel ready to get back and start recording. But Cheryl can't commit to that right now."

"They're all very supportive of her, but they are concerned they could be left behind. They're also worried they might be hanging around forever if they wait for Cheryl.

They continued: "Obviously it's going to be very difficult without Cheryl. But they know they'll do well with another album and Cheryl could even join them for the tour next year if she's available."

The source added: "It makes sense and it doesn't mean that she's leave the band - she'd just be taking a break."

Girls Aloud without Chezza? Hmmm, we are not so sure...
