Producer Says Fugees Will Reunite

Rumors of a possible Fugees reunion have been swirling around for years, and according to Grammy-winning producer Jerry "Wonda" Duplessis, they may be getting back together sometime soon.

Duplessis, who produced many of the tracks on their diamond-selling sophomore release 'The Score,' claims that a reconciliation is imminent.

"I believe there will be a day when the Fugees get together, but everyone in the group's gotta' be ready," Duplessis told Rap-Up.com. "The Fugees are definitely going to get back together. The time will come. You've gotta wait, man."

The Haitian born self-taught musician had a little fun with the notion, tweeting that he was in the studio with members Pras, Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill, as an April Fool's joke. News of the gag spread pretty quickly prompting several phone calls inquiring about a reunion.

"In my studio, I was getting crazy phone calls and mad emails. My Twitter was going heavy. People all over the globe were saying, 'Is it true? We really want the Fugees!'" he said. "Lauryn was getting phone calls. Wyclef was getting phone calls. Pras was getting phone calls. I felt that if tickets had gone on sale, it would have been sold out in two hours--globally."

Although the trio attempted to get back together years ago, Jean has since thrown his hands up at the idea, publicly criticizing Hill for holding up the process and calling her "mentally ill." After a slew of erratic public appearances, which include showing up hours late for performances, Hill appears to be getting back on track, even writing a letter to fans apologizing for her tardiness.

Demi Lovato lined up for X Factor performance

Demi Lovato is set to mark her comeback with a performance on the US version of 'The X Factor'.

The 18-year-old star - who left rehab in January after seeking treatment for "emotional and physical issues" in November - is in talks with producers of the highly-anticipated TV talent show to perform on one of the live shows after a judging role was ruled out.

A source said: "She has, in fact, had meetings concerning the matter, but chances are very slim that she would be joining the cast as a judge. They think, because of her age, she might not be the right fit for a judge. But they have spoken about having Demi come on to perform during the season, and have discussed her having her comeback performance."

The show - created by Simon Cowell - is set to premiere in September and insiders believe this is perfect for Demi as it will give her the chance to put all her problems behind her and focus on her career.

Demi - who entered rehab after she allegedly punched a backing dancer - recently revealed she was excited about the prospect of returning to work.

In a video message thanking fans for their support, she said: "I wanted to let you guys know that I'm excited to get back to work and I can't wait to tell you what the future holds. I can't wait to see you guys in person and thank you all individually. I love you all and I couldn't have done this without you."

Mark Hoppus Says Blink-182 Are 'Working Very Hard' On New Album

Back in February, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker told MTV News that his band's long-in-the-works album would finally be finished in "June or July," an announcement that was greeted with much joy — and skepticism — from fans who have seemingly been waiting forever to hear new music from the trio.

Because, truth be told, they've heard talk like this before ... in fact, at this point, the project carries with it a timeline that stretches all the way back to February 2009 — when Blink-182 announced that they were not only reuniting, but "in the studio writing and recording a new album" — and has included supposed release dates in 2010 and 2011.

But now, it really, truly seems like the still-untitled album is entering the home stretch. Not only did Mark Hoppus post a brand-new studio clip on his Facebook page late Tuesday, but when MTV News spoke to the bassist last week — back when Blink-182 were still in the hunt for the Musical March Madness championship — he backed up Barker's claims of a summer release. For real.

"The timeline! The Blink-182 timeline! Always an interesting point of discussion!" Hoppus laughed. "We are still planning for an early-to-midsummer release, we're working very hard at it. Right now Travis is back on the road, so I'm back in L.A. working on the record, [guitarist Tom DeLonge's] working on the record, we're sending stuff to Travis; as soon as [he] gets back, hopefully Tom and I will have the album in a shape where Travis can come in and we can spend, you know, a month, month-and-a-half working really hard on pounding out the album and get it done."

Hoppus explained that most of the recording's delay has been due to the way Blink have chosen to work this time around — in bits and pieces, alone and together, in a pair of California studios — which has everything to do with each member's rather, uh, busy schedules.

"It's definitely a very different process ... before, at least we were all in the same room at the same time," he said. "With this, with Travis having his solo record, me being in L.A., and Tom doing his stuff and also being in San Diego, at first it felt like maybe it was a bit piecemeal, but now it feels like we're getting into a good rhythm.

"Between sending songs back and forth to each other, we'll all meet up in the studio every few weeks and go over everything, listen down to everything and I'll say, 'OK, I love what you did with this idea. Let me take this song for a week and try some ideas on it,' " he continued. "And I'll take a song for a week, try a bunch of stuff on it, present it back to everybody else, they'll make their comments and then move on from there."

So, yes, Blink are holding fast to a summer release. And in spite of their packed schedules — and despite everything you may think — they are making progress toward that goal. One song at a time.

"It really depends on the day how finished songs are ... there's songs that I think are finished that we go back and work on some more, there's songs that I think are going to take a long time and they end up progressing pretty quickly," Hoppus explained. "I feel like we've worked on about 16 tracks, of which 12 of those are making the cut. When songs don't seem to be working, we let them fall by the wayside, and I think we're pretty good about putting the better songs forward. So, we're working on 12, five or six of those are in states that are near completion, and the other ones are formed ideas with structures and parts — they just need filling in. The skeletons are all there, we just need to fill in the pieces."

Grammy Awards Make Drastic Cuts—Which Categories Are Gone?

The Grammy Awards is about to get an extreme makeover.

In an effort to remain relevant, the folks at the Recording Academy today announced plans to cut more than 30 categories from the bloated show.

And we say it's about time.

Over the course of the Grammys' 53-year existence, the number of awards handed out has climbed to 109. Next year there were only (only!) be 78.

"After careful and extensive review and analysis of all categories and fields, it was objectively determined that our Grammy categories be restructured to the continued competition and prestige of the highest and only peer-recognized award in music," Recording Academy boss Neil Portnow said.

Christina Aguilera tops 'empowering' song poll

Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful' has been named the most empowering pop song of the last decade for lesbian, gay and bisexual people in a new poll.

Equality charity Stonewall polled more than 1,000 online supporters to find out which song they thought had the most empowering message. Aguilera's 2003 hit achieved 33% of the vote, ahead of the 25% achieved by Boyzone's 'Better' in second place.

The Irish group became the first boyband to feature a gay couple in a music video, when the late Stephen Gateley was shown with a male partner.

Lady GaGa's 'Born This Way' placed third with 17%, followed by Gossip's 'Standing In The Way Of Control' and Katy Perry's 'Firework' in fourth and fifth position respectively.

Responding to the news, Christina Aguilera said: "I'm delighted to have been voted the most inspirational pop act by Stonewall's supporters - my gay fan base is so important to me and this continues my special relationship with them."

'Professor of Pop' Paul Gambaccini added: "Recently many of the United States' leading female vocalists have recorded anthems of self-empowerment as a response to bullying, homophobia and misogyny in schools and society. Several of these have become major hits.

"The one that has registered most with Stonewall's online supporters has been the out lesbian Linda Perry's song 'Beautiful' popularised by Christina Aguilera. This recording lives up to its title. As a song and as a performance, it is a major achievement that has inspired millions of young people around the world."
