"Watch The Throne" inspires Drake
Drake says Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaborative album has made him want to work 'ten times harder'.
The two rap superstars released Watch the Throne earlier this month. It was hotly anticipated as both are such huge figures in hip-hop, and Drake was as keen as everyone else to hear it.
The star wasn't disappointed, revealing it's made him more determined than ever to impress with his new offering.
'With Jay and with Watch the Throne, I'm so glad that it came out. As artists, we all need extra motivation. And I feel like in these last 30 days, that album is going to make me go ten times harder from just, you know, hearing all the bars and all the sounds,' he explained.
Drake is currently working on his new record Take Care. It's slated for an October release and he's putting the finishing touches to it at the moment.
He hopes people appreciate how much has gone into the LP, although he worries that won't be the case. Drake fears young fans have become so used to getting music quickly it means they hate waiting for artists to record. In turn that puts pressure on musicians to deliver.
'You've got to live, man. Exactly. I remember when artist used to take, like, four years to make an album. Usher used to disappear for three years. It took Justin Timberlake a really long time to craft Justified,' he told Entertainment Weekly. 'Even Beyoncé's albums are spanned three years apart. You've got to live, man. And now we've sort of birthed and encouraged this generation of instant gratification.
"I really hope that there's people who sit with the music and drive to it and just really soak it in - not just run back to the computer and demand more.'
